Temple

This is the very first blog I’ve ever created out of interest. That’s why I started off with one of my favorite books written by Matthew Reilly, Temple. Well, to start with, this book is actually action oriented. Filled with overwhelming details and excellent narration, this book sure kept my attention throughout. It was quite different from other books in that though action oriented, it had a kind of good story which served as a strong foundation for the entire structure of the book. Unlike other books in which people get carried away, this one sure revolved around the same topic. Ok, I won’t drill you with details. Let’s get to the point, the synopsis.

Deep in the jungles of Peru, the race of the century is underway. A race to locate a legendary Incan idol an idol carved out of a strange kind of stone. A stone which in the late 20th century could be used as the basis for a terrifying new weapon. The US Army wants it at any cost but they are not alone….

The only clue to the idol’s final resting place lies in a 400 year old manuscript. Enter Professor William Race, a brilliant young linguist, who is unwittingly recruited to translate the manuscript and lead the Army team to the idol. And so begins the mission that will lead Race and his companions to a mysterious stone temple hidden in the foothills of the Andes. A temple seething with menace and danger. But it is only when the temple is opened that Race and his team discover that they have broken a golden rule: Some doors are meant to remain unopened.

I really liked the way that there are two stories running in tandem, the way that the two eras are brought together over the great time difference was something that I particularly liked as I enjoy stories set in Historical contexts.

The point of the story is that of a search for an idol, documented in texts written by a monk. It could be important to a new line of weapons research. There are several groups looking for it, from fanatics to the American government but it is proving illusive. The story revolves around William Race, an expert in ancient languages, who bears a resemblance to the man who hid the idol so successfully that it remains hidden to this day. The search is exciting, with big crocodiles and lots of jungle chases.

Although I felt that the story was far fetched, it was well written and I really did enjoy it.
